I am a self-taught, mixed media artist, working with both abstract and figurative elements. My work uses contrasting color treatments, frequently worked into highly textured surfaces. A combination of color, surface textures and figurative elements help me explore ambiguity and mystery. Distortion, reflection, shadow and partial images of sometimes familiar items help provoke the viewer to stop and think about what they are seeing: Is it real? Is it imagined? Have I seen this before? What is the story? What happens next?
I use primarily multiple water-media materials including acrylics, pastels, inks and watercolors, along with photographs and collage. A number of pieces incorporate unusual materials–tar (goudron), concrete, stucco and lace for example–which provide unique surfaces and textural effects with hints of evolving imagery.
Paintings are currently held in private collections in Switzerland, Spain, France, the UK and the United States.
